Sustainable Transport & Travel Plans

We work with local authorities and government departments to promote workable and sustainable transport strategies in both urban and rural settings. We look to increase sustainable transport options by identifying potential strategies and solutions based on the evidence on how people travel, where and why, and what would change their pattern of behaviour.

We also develop methodologies for sustainable and environmental enhancements to the public realm to accommodate pedestrian, cycle and vehicle movements. We particularly focus on the integrated management of the street as it affects the operation and appearance of the street.

We have taken a leading role in supporting travel planning nationally and locally.

Recent and current projects include:
DfT - Good Practice Guidelines: Delivering travel plans through the planning process -
This project consists of 3 reports which outline the benefits of travel plans, key aspects within all stages of the planning process and how to ensure they are maintained. The main document details best practice, drawn from case study research, to help local authorities, developers and planners produce high quality, robust travel plans and suggested steps that need to be taken. The site also links to the research document which shows the backup data used to compile the main best practice report.  This work followed on from our original research on Securing Travel Plans through the planning system (2001/2) – DfT – April 2009 to view reports please use link on  Publications  page.
